 English Drive in Afghanistan

English Drive in AfghanistanJobs for language teachers always have a slot or place somewhere. A major factor of language teachers is their ability to apply English in both oral and written, which is highly demanded in many key areas. While English is applicable in a lot of areas for foreign NGOs, it is also essential for a number of government jobs. Most of the time, when people apply for a job, they are asked how good is their knowledge of the English language.

In Afghanistan, for example, being a deprived country and all is now making steps to open itself to the world and the first pace starts with education of the English language. Because of this, there are now over a hundred private language schools for English in the country and over ten thousand students. The rising dominance of the Western (especially American) culture brought about the upsurge of English language study. Also, the impact of globalization is another major factor that key in the knowledge of the English language as a must.

Moreover, most of the local instructors positioned in language centres have learned English while being refugees in Pakistan and came back to Afghanistan after US led the invasion of English skills into the country. Furthermore, the Afghans who can speak English quite fluently work with the NGOs assigned in the area and are being paid 10-15 times more than their previous jobs as interpreters, translators or drivers. The ministry on education has been operating on a new syllabus intended for schools and the nationwide drive is aimed at making English the chief foreign language trained in the country; the aim is to allow students work in the English atmosphere both in Afghanistan and overseas after they are through with the 12th grade.

The arrival of the U.N. and other international NGOs engaged in the developmental work instigated the English drive in Afghanistan. There are a handful of jobs in the public sector made available and a few employment opportunities situated in foreign aid agencies certify familiarity with English as very useful. Today, almost everyone understand the substance of the English language so much that parents are taking the initiative to send their children to centres, if not schools, to have them study and learn the language.
